Students learn how to use a singular noun for one person, animal, place or thing, and a plural noun for two or more. The worksheet explains that the number or quantity tells students which noun form they need.
The worksheet teaches regular plural rules such as adding -s for most nouns, adding -es after endings such as -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x or some -z nouns, and changing consonant + y to -ies. Students practise forms such as books, buses, watches, boxes, cities and babies.
Students also practise plural spelling changes with nouns ending in f or fe, such as leaf → leaves, knife → knives and wife → wives, while also learning common exceptions such as roof → roofs and chef → chefs. The worksheet also covers common -o plurals such as tomatoes and potatoes, alongside exceptions such as photos and pianos.
The worksheet also teaches common irregular and same-form plurals, including man → men, woman → women, child → children, person → people, foot → feet, tooth → teeth, mouse → mice, sheep → sheep and deer → deer. Students also learn not to use apostrophes to form plurals, so they write cats, not cat’s.
