Students learn how to use common time prepositions such as at, on, in, for, since, before, after, during, by, until and from…to. The worksheet gives students clear rules and examples so they can talk about times, days, dates, months, years, deadlines, duration and time periods more accurately.
The worksheet teaches the core difference between at, on and in. Students practise using at for exact times and fixed expressions, such as at 7 o’clock, at lunchtime, at night, at the weekend and at Christmas. They also practise on for days and dates, such as on Monday, on 12 June, on my birthday and on New Year’s Day. For longer periods, students practise in, as in in July, in 2026, in winter and in the morning.
Students also practise the important difference between for and since. They learn that for is used with a length of time, such as for two hours, for three days and for a long time, while since is used with a starting point, such as since Monday, since 2020 and since I was a child. The worksheet also covers by for deadlines and until for actions that continue up to a time.
