Download this free B1–B2 English worksheet PDF for English learners and teachers. This lesson explores procrastination, academic performance and why people sometimes delay important tasks even when they know the delay may create more stress later.
Students practise reading comprehension, useful vocabulary, phrase matching and speaking skills through a real-world education and psychology topic about procrastination, deadlines, distractions, stress, perfectionism and productivity. The worksheet is suitable for private English lessons, online classes, classroom teaching, homework and discussion practice.
The article is based on a large study of nearly 66,000 university students in the United States. More than seven in ten students said they had experienced procrastination during the previous year, while about 45% said it had harmed their studies.
The worksheet explains that procrastination is not always the same as laziness. People may avoid a task because it feels boring, difficult or stressful and turn instead to easier activities that provide quick relief. Checking messages, tidying a room or watching videos can feel easier than beginning an unpleasant piece of work.
Students also examine how delay can create a cycle. Unfinished tasks build up, deadlines get closer and people may fall behind. Stress and poor sleep can then make it harder to catch up, making the original problem even more difficult to solve.
The article also introduces practical strategies. Students consider breaking a large task down into smaller steps, starting with one manageable action, removing distractions and asking another person to help them keep up with a plan.
This worksheet helps B1–B2 learners discuss procrastination in everyday life. Students talk about which tasks they put off, what distractions get in the way, whether deadlines improve their focus, which household jobs they struggle to get round to, and whether AI tools could help people organise difficult tasks.
The PDF includes a B1–B2 reading article, True / False questions, Phrase Match, Synonym Match, a task where students use new language, discussion questions and a full answer key.
