Free B1–B2 Grammar Worksheet PDF: First and Second Conditionals

Download this free B1–B2 grammar worksheet PDF for English learners and teachers. This lesson helps students practise the difference between the first conditional and the second conditional in clear, practical English.

Students learn how to use the first conditional for real or possible future situations. The worksheet teaches the pattern if + present simple, will + base verb, as in If it rains tomorrow, we will stay at home. It also shows that the result clause can use can, may, might or an imperative, for example If you finish early, you can leave and If you see Anna, tell her.

Students also practise the second conditional for imaginary, unreal or unlikely present or future situations. The worksheet teaches the pattern if + past simple, would + base verb, as in If I had more time, I would travel more. It also includes could and might in second conditional results, such as If I lived nearer, I could visit more often and If I won the prize, I might buy a bike.

The worksheet also covers the useful advice structure If I were you, I would…, which is more standard than If I was you. Students practise comma placement, modal variation and common conditional mistakes, including the important rule that will and would are not normally used in the if-clause.

The PDF includes a grammar focus section, first and second conditional exercises, choose-the-correct-form practice, sentence matching, mistake correction, mini-dialogues, sentence rewriting, realistic vs imaginary situation practice, speaking questions, writing practice, vocabulary practice, an error-checking challenge, useful reminders and a full answer key.

This worksheet can be used in one-to-one lessons, group classes, online English lessons, adult ESL lessons, EFL classes, homework or independent grammar practice.
